Over 400 people affected, 60 houses damaged Following Heavy Rains

More than sixty homes were damaged by winds, according to a report released on Thursday by the County Disaster Management Directorate.
The report states that 119 adults and 218 children are impacted.
It stated that the rains, which were followed by hailstorms, had devastated more than thirty acres of crop land.
A portion of the report states, “A strong wind storm accompanied by heavy rainfall was the cause of the damage.”
“Two classrooms at Kakurikit Primary School were blown off, three people were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, and one death was reported.”
According to the report, “63 houses were blown off and more than 30 acres of various crops were damaged.”
According to the report, as further rain is predicted in the area, the affected households urgently need food and shelter.
According to the Met Department, there will be more rain in several areas of the nation next week, such as Western Kenya and the Rift Valley, on Thursday.
Joseph Ekisa, the acting director of county disaster management, stated that the county is now organizing financial and other forms of support in order to assist individuals impacted.
“In order to rebuild their damaged homes and other structures, the affected households require immediate support,” he stated.
“We are mobilizing to provide building materials to the affected families so they can repair their damaged houses, and we are also pushing to provide planting seeds and fertilizer to those affected.”
To determine the extent of the damage, a department team visited the impacted districts on Wednesday, including Katotoi, Kakurikit, Osia, Kasinge, and Kaejo.
Stephen Wambura, the deputy county commissioner for Teso North, went with the team to the evaluation.
Acting County Disaster Management Director Joseph Ekisa said the county is now planning financial and other types of assistance to help those affected.
