The Government Sets Aside Ksh 750M For Establishment Of Sports Academies
The government through the ministry Sports, Culture and Heritage has set aside Ksh 750M for the construction of sports Academies across the country.
The ministry of sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has confirmed that Ksh.750M has already been set aside for the construction of the academies of the foresaid sports academies.
The sports academies are going to be established at county levels across the country.
CS Amina has informed the mass the ministry is only waiting for finer details and expectations so that the process can commence by the end of November this year. The CS have a projection that the will be completed by June 2022.
The ministry of sports sent representatives to the Constituencies and a report is expected to be relased soon, Cs Amina said.
According to CS Amina also hinted that the 10 sports academies are among the 17 that were identified in phase one.
The 17 constituencies that are set to benefit are Igembe Central, Webuye, Lagdera, Mwingi West, Voi, Mavoko, Narok South, Lurambi, Marakwet West, Luanda, Nyaribari Chache, Isiolo South, Ainamoi, Tinderet, Alego Usonga and Kieni Ndaragwa.
The money to be used in the construction of the academies is part of the Sports, Arts, and Social Development Fund. So far Ksh 30.3 billion has been collected since its inception in the financial year 2018/2019.
So far Ksh 415 million has been used to construct Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu County, Ksh 310 million for construction of Wanguru stadium in Kirinyaga Ksh 609 million for the construction of Posta Jamhuri Sports Ground (which is 98% complete) and Ksh 596 million for construction of Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu County (which is 80% complete).
CS Amina further said the government through the ministry of sports will continue being involved in the construction of the stadia and academies to ensure the young men and women exploit their talents.
