The government through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has plans to confirm JSS intern teachers into permanent and pensionable terms.
The National Assembly Education Committee has assured that the confirmation of 46,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers will proceed as planned.
Chairperson Julius Melly stated that cash had been put aside for the purpose, and there was no need for concern.
Speaking in his Tinderet constituency, he stated that the 20,000 interns who will be hired soon will eventually be converted into permanent and pensionable positions.
“The confirmation of 46,000 intern teachers will proceed as expected. This is the promise I give as chairperson of the Education Committee,” he stated.

To address the trainer deficit and improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the country, he stated that monies had been provided for the hire of trainers.
According to him, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) plans to send appointment letters to 26,000 interns beginning today.
Melly urged Kenyans to be patient, noting that Kenya Kwanza is committed to hiring 116,000 teachers by 2027. “I would want to appeal to Kenyans for patience in this subject.

TSC has since advertised 20,000 internship positions, days after President William Ruto withdrew the Finance Bill following a wave of demonstrations in the country.

The Treasury has now directed the Commission to postpone the confirmation of interns to PnP and the hiring of JSS intern teachers.
