Following the upsurge of positivity rates and the number of people succumbing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released an official circular ordering all teachers for immediate vaccination by 23rd August 2021 as it was directed early last week.
TSC released the circular today 16th August 2021. This comes after TSC released a report of a low number of teachers taking the vaccine since the mandatory vaccination of civil servants was launched last week. The report has is that only three hundred and forty (340) teachers have taken the vaccine in the last seven days across the country.
The circular was directed to all school heads, sub-county directors, county directors and regional directors. TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia noted that it is peremptory for teachers to take the vaccine. This was as per the government circular Ref. No. OP/CAB.1/12A which was released on 5th August 2021.
Dr Macharia said that they have taken the move because it is necessary to all teachers to respond with immediate effect to curb the increased positivity rates across the country.
According to Mr Kinyua, all civil servants across the country will be given priority to receive the covid-19 vaccine in the ongoing vaccination exercise.
