TSC: Profile Update Exercise Extended For Four(4) More Days
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has delivered good news to teachers after hearing the plea of teachers to extend the period for profile update exercise.
The profile update portal has reopened by TSC after its closure by the end of November. Teachers who had not updated their profiles have been given an extension of 4 more days to update their profiles.
The decision to extend the exercise was reached to allow all teachers who were locked out to update their profiles.
The report has it that majority of ECDE, BOM, private school and unemployed teachers had not updated their profiles because they never knew that they were to do the exercise.
TSC in a circular dated 28th July 2021 directed all registered teachers to update their profile by 30th November 202 to help the Commission maintain an updated register of teachers.
in this regard, the Commission has opened the online registration to allow individual teachers to update their details.
However, some teachers failed to update their profile because they misinterpreted the directive and thought that the exercise was only meant for teachers employed with TSC but Dr Macharia emphasised that all teachers registered by the Commission should update their profiles.
According to Dr Macharia, the exercise is crucial in reference to provisions of the constitution and TSC Act that mandates it to keep the register of all teachers.
It is the responsibility of the TSC to maintain the register of all teachers and issue them with the Certificate of Registration in accordance with Article 237 of the constitution.
Dr Macharia further said that teachers register should have basic teachers’ details such as their national identification cards, name, KRA pin numbers, religion, date of birth, gender, mobile phone numbers and nationality.
The details required in teachers’ profiles include home county, sub-county, division, zone, constituency, impairment type, permanent postal address, postcode, permanent town, current postal address, postcode and town.
Dr Macharia further clarified that update of teachers’ profiles is a different exercise from the biometric registration of teachers. However, she said that the two will later be linked.
