Twenty one (21) teens die in a bar, some as young as 13 years. The mysterious deaths of the said under age children is under investigation.
The incident has occurred in the republic of South Africa after a night out.
Police have launched investigation to establish the root cause the mysterious deaths of 21 teenagers after a night out.
Agewise, most of the victims were as young as 13 and report indicates that the teenagers were found dead inside a popular bar in the southern city of East London while some died later in the hospital.
The bodies showed no visible injury, sparking speculation among local officials and politicians that it was a case of underage alcoholism that tragically went wrong.
According to the regional police spokesman, Thembinkosi Kinana, special investigators, Pretoria have reached on the scene to carry out thorough investigation.
“Investigators have started their work at the crime scene today,” regional police spokesman Thembinkosi Kinana told AFP.
Majority of the victims are alleged to be students who were celebrating the end of high school exams, report indicates.
Autopsies wi also carry some tests find out whether the deaths could be linked to poisoning.
Additionally, forensic analysis will be conducted this week, report indicates.
“Samples were taken and were on the first flight today to Cape Town where the tests will be conducted,” said Unathi Binqose, a government safety official.
Drinking of alcoholic beverages in South Africa is allowed for those over 18 years of age.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is among those who have expressed concern.
The teenagers were reportedly “gathered in a place that, at first glance, should be off-limits to children under the age of 18,” he said.
