UON Mass Demonstration Looms, Reporting Of First Years In Limbo. Fire Burns Down Main Campus Kitchen.
Just hours before the day scheduled for the reporting date for the first years in the University of Nairobi (UON), the unexpected has happened.
News from the trusted source reveals that the UON main campus kitchen has been set ablaze and the cause of the fire has not been established.
This fire has just emerged on the onset of the University’s strike set to start today 20th Monday, September 2021.
This may be a signal for worse things to happen today when first-years are expected to report.
Early, the University student council had announced a strike notice on all the campuses. In the notice, the University’s Students Council Secretary Kikwai Nathan Kiplangat wrote that there will be a demonstration on all the campuses of UON. The notice also urged all the parents of first years who are to report today not to report to the university because all comrades will be demonstrating over hiking of first-year fees.
The new students’ letter, indicates that parents are expected to pay Ksh. 59,000 after an abnormal increase from the previous year where students paid Ksh. 28,500.
The first-year students who are reporting today are urged to be very careful to ensure that they are safe. It is good for them to way until the they assess the situation.
This comes after the University of Kabianga was closed indefinitely after they held demonstrations over an increase in school fees.
