Parents have raised concerns about high drug usage by learners at school. It has been observed that any time schools are reopening, cases of learners being caught with drugs are becoming rampant.
It is because of this observation that the parents have raised their concerns to the administration of the national authority for the campaign against alcohol and drug abuse.
Nyaanga Lawrence, president of NACADA Kisii branch has condemned the rampant drug use by the learners in schools and more especially in the region. On May students from kisii school were caught with rolls of bhang when they were reporting back to school after the April holiday.
According to Nyaanga, the behavior is attributed to lack of good role models. He blamed it all on bad role models.
Nyaanga, expressed concern that the parents or guardians who are supposed to raise the children in the best way possible have turned to wolves who prey on the same children they are suppose to instill moral behavior on. Children have no option but to emulate what their elders are doing.
The priest appealed to teachers and the church to stand firm and protect humanity by guiding children to be assertive and to keep away from negative peer influence.
He also appealed to children not to have such role models.
The priest appealed to the Kisii County Chief of Staff to instruct his security men to arrest those who buy and sell illegal beer in masked water bottles.
Nyaanga the priest, has promised as the president of NACADA kisii branch, not to rest until he ensures that the young generation youths, have come to their senses and practice a good lifestyle.
He appealed to all stakeholders to join efforts and stop the menace of drug abuse at any cost so that the youths can be saved.
