TSC changes grading system for JSS
Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers now have a new grade scheme and identification thanks to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
Intern teachers have been classified as Secondary Intern Teachers in accordance with the job classifications.
Secondary Teacher III has been assigned for diploma holders at Grade C1, and Secondary Teacher II has been established for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in education or its equivalent at Grade C2, which is also a promotional grade for diploma holders.
Secondary Teacher 1 was assigned to Grade C3, Senior Master IV was the promotional and admission grade for institutional administrators at JSS, and Senior Master III was assigned to Grade C5, Senior Master I is in Grade D2, whereas Senior Master II is in Grade D1.
Deputy Principal IV at Grade C5, followed by Deputy Principal III at Grade D1, Deputy Principal II at Grade D2, and Deputy Principal I at Grade D3 is the promotional and entry grade for Deputy Principals in JSS.
Principal JSS begins with the specified grade of D3, which is followed by Senior Principal at D4, and Chief Principal at D5.
It is unclear, however, if the Commission will stick with the current grading system in light of the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms’ recommendation to move junior secondary schools into primary schools and rename them junior schools.
The team also suggested changing the definition of basic education to include a primary school that was enlarged to include Pre-Primary (PP1-PP2), Primary (PP3-PP6), and Secondary (SS1-SS9).
Lower Primary (Grades 1-3), Upper Primary (Grades 4-6), and Junior School (Grades 7-9) will make up the primary portion.
Pre-primary, Primary, and Junior Schools will each be led by a Deputy Principal while the Comprehensive School will have a single overall leader known as a Principal.
