Governor Lomorukai pledges to end water challenges in Kalokol
Water challenges in Kalokol ward, Turkana Central subcounty, Turkana County has been a longstanding problem.
Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai has promised that his administration is committed to ending longstanding water challenges in Kalokol ward, Turkana Central subcounty, Turkana County.
During the Mashujaa Day celebrations commemorated in Kalokol for the first time in history, Governor Lomorukai announced that Sh40 million had been allocated for a massive water project in the area to benefit residents of the town and nearby centers, such as the Lobolo and Namukuse area.
“As part of my agenda on water, we are committed to solving the water shortage issue in Kalokol. We have set aside Sh40 million in the county budget to ensure that the water challenges in the area become a thing of the past,” he stated.
Governor Lomorukai also disclosed that the region will benefit from an additional project of Sh20 million implemented by the Northrift Water Works Authority in partnership with his administration.
The Northrift water works project is expected to extend the water pipeline from a source near Eliye springs all the way to Kalokol.
The news is certainly music to the ears of the area’s residents, as Kalokol has experienced acute water shortages and the emergence of unscrupulous dealers who hoard the precious commodity, thus slowing down the economic transformation of the significant fish trading center.
Water services Executive Faith Aletea noted that the move would eliminate the water cartels and restore the economic vibrancy of the fish landing town.
CEC Aletea said that her department would work round the clock to deliver the two projects in line with the commitment issued by the Governor to the residents of the area.
According to CEC Aletea, the completed works at Naguro in Turkana South, Kakiteitei in Turkana East and Kakuma in Turkana West were demonstrations of Governor Lomorukais’ commitment towards addressing the water access challenge for all the residents of the County hence the Kalokol promise for the benefit of Turkana Central.
