Government to Increase Land Transaction Rates, Gazette Notice
The government has yet again gazzetted another set of tax laws through the Ministry of lands, housing and urban development by proposing to increase land transactions rates.
Alice Wahome in a gazette notice has proposed changes to 3 acts of parliament to amend the existing statutory instruments that have not been updated over a long period, especially the fees and charges payable for various services rendered by the government in the land sector.
The proposed changes on the land rates include an increase in land searches to 2,000 shillings. 1500 shillings to be charged for registration of land documents while corporation certificates in the land ownership process will cost 1500 shillings etra.
Fees for the incorporation of a trust have been increased from 5,000 to 50,000 shillings.
Also, in the proposed changes, application for certified copies of the proceedings arising from the determination of the land registrar will cost 3,000 shillings for the first 10 pages and 100 shillings for each additional page.
Similarly, resubmission for registration of any document in land transactions will cost 1,500 shillings while correction of a name will be charged at 2,500 shillings. Further, notice of revocation of power of attorney will cost 5,000 shillings.
Kenyans will also pay 5K to ascertain boundaries in disputes and have them fixed.

To have any officer of the registry attend a place outside the registration office for more than a day the gazetted changes propose that Kenyans will pay 5,000 shillings plus transport depending on the distance travelled.
Another 5,000 will be charged for professional advice on any matter related to registration by the land registrar.
According to the Ministry of Lands, some of the fees prescribed by the statutory instruments have not been changed for many years, causing the need to upgrade service-delivery and the cost of providing services.
