Knec Rules Out Cheating In Schools Where All Students Scored Same Marks In One Subject
The Kenya National Examination Council has addressed a situation in which all students at an Isiolo school received 75 points in science on the Wednesday results of the KCPE exam.
CEO of Knec, David Njengere, stated on Saturday that the school has reviewed the KCPE exam results.
According to Brainstar Schools’ results, which have been making the rounds on social media, most of the candidates received comparable scores in Science.
“Knec has reviewed the results for the school and all the reports that were received from the examination centres and anonymous letters and has not found any indication that the school was involved in examination malpractices,” Njengere stated.
He clarified that since the Science question type is multiple-choice, it is conceivable for the candidates to receive the same score and there was no test fraud in this instance.

Even though it’s possible that the incident was an anomaly in the examination, Njengere said there isn’t enough proof for Knec to approve the candidates’ results until there is a report proving that there was examination fraud.
Njengere also addressed the mistakes in the results that were observed based on the SMS code.
He claimed that the results submitted on the Knec portal are error-free, but only the SMS code results are.
The head of the Knec reported that via the SMS code 40054, some impacted schools had appealed to them about their displeasure with the results that they had received from candidates and schools.

“The errors affected only the SMS results due to configuration issues, as the results in the KNEC portal are accurate,” Njengere stated.
He claimed that after Knec informed the SMS service provider, the text message problem was fixed right away.
According to Njengere, the Knec was notified that certain candidates’ grades and marks were not aligned in Kiswahili when they were entered into Kenyan Sign Language.
According to him, there have also been instances where the grades in Social Studies, Science, and Religious Education were improperly abridged.
