TSC Sets Training Dates For Retooling of Teachers
The Teachers Service Commission has disclosed training dates for teachers who will be handling examinations in the Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) and Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The training programme is scheduled to take place as from 20th to 30th of May of this year in three phases. The training aims to retool the teachers.
On May 20th -23rd, the training will involve Training of Trainers. This will include regular and special needs education teachers. It will take place at select venues which will be communicated later.
The participants in the first phase, also known as trainers of trainers, will include Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), Teachers Educators from Teachers Training College (TTCs), Quality Assurance and Standards Officers (QASO) and TSC Sub-county Directors (SCDs).

The second phase of the training will take place from May 24th-25th, 2024. The Sub-county and zonal training coordination will take place at the County and Sub-county levels. The participants will include Master Trainers, Trainer of Trainers and County Directors.
The final phase, phase three, will take place as from 27th to 30th of May 2024. The training will involve retooling of teachers clustered by the subject at specific venues per county. The participants will include teachers of Languages, Science, Mathematics, Humanities and Technical subjects.
The training will be conducted face-to-face using a multi-agency approach, with teacher capacity development carried through a smart cascade model.
The Teacher Service Commission through this programme aims to ensure that teachers are retooled for effective delivery of the new curriculum, CBC.
KNEC Chief Executive Officer, David Njengere revealed on 25th of April that the the Government agency is at final stages of preparing to conduct pilot Grade 9 assessment. The assessment is set for June this year. The sample will give a glimpse of the end of Junior School Assessment that will be in October.

The CBC pioneer class Grade 8 will write an exam (assessment) which will be used as a transition tool to senior secondary school grade nine on October this year.
