Another Big win for Gen Zs
President William Ruto’s decision to dismiss his Cabinet on Thursday was a major victory for the younger generation, dubbed Generation Zoomers or Gen Zs.
The president has been compelled to fire his Cabinet by the well-organized Gen Z, despite their claims of being leaderless and partyless.
Following weeks of nationwide rallies, the Gen Zs rebuffed President William Ruto’s requests for discussion and demanded that he dissolve the cabinet.
The Gen Z movement has swept the nation, organizing nationwide demonstrations to call for significant changes, including the dismissal of his cabinet secretaries.
Ruto announced on Wednesday that he had made a decision based on a comprehensive analysis of his cabinet’s performance.
The president acknowledged that, in spite of the government’s accomplishments to date, Kenyans had high expectations for his leadership.
In a national address from State House, Ruto stated, “I am acutely aware that the people of Kenya have high expectations of me and they believe that this admiration can take the most extensive transformation of our country.”
The President stated that there won’t be any difficulties in providing government services as a result of the cabinet’s departure.
“During this process, services will continue uninterrupted under the leadership of the Principal sectaries,” Ruto stated.
The Gen Z movement’s rallying cry when they initially took to the streets was to oppose Finance Bill 2024.
Another Big win for Gen Zs
The demonstrators vented their annoyance with the Kenya Kwanza administration on various social media channels. Public employees, both appointed and elected, were placed on notice for their behavior as a result of the protests, which eventually turned into a cry for accountability in government.
President Ruto was persuaded to change his position on the Finance Bill, which would have required Kenyans to take out larger loans from their own purses in order to support government operations, following days of intense lobbying.
He asked Parliament to withdraw the Bill in its entirety after rejecting it. Later on, the youth made other requests of the administration that they wished to see fulfilled.
First on the list, which was made public and marked as “non-negotiable,” was the demand that the Executive abide by all court rulings and do away with the unlawful Chief Administrative Secretary role.
Subsequently, Ruto declared he was stopping the hiring of CAS officers.
Additionally, Gen Zs demanded that public funds for the Prime Cabinet Secretary’s Spouse, the First Lady, and the Second Lady be eliminated and instead used to hire teachers and medical professionals.
Later, the President gave in to the pressure and shelved the budget.
The list recommends that all public servants with criminal histories and integrity problems be fired right away.
They are also encouraged to form the IEBC and hire JSS instructors and intern doctors within the next 30 days.

The President committed to hire the JSS teachers this year when he signed the IEBC Bill into law on Tuesday.
There has been increased pressure to lower the wages and benefits of MPs, with a ceiling of Sh200,000.
The demonstrators demanded that doctors should be paid the same as MPs and that the school food program be reinstated.
The list recommended that all government employees utilize government cars, trains, and aircraft in order to save waste.
