Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has sent a crucial message to parents and detractors of the Competency-based Curriculum (CBC).
In recent days, a lot has been said negatively concerning the introduction of the new system, competency-based curriculum, CBC which is replacing the old system, the 8.4.4 system.
For instance, a parent filed a petition trying to oppose the new system stating that CBC is subjecting parents to unnecessary burdens.
Parents have come out in support of detractors. They have raised a lot of concerns and complaints. Some have complained saying that they are the ones studying on behalf of their children, something they want to be addressed with a lot of agency by CS Magoha and other education stakeholders.
The KICD has therefore tried to clarify some matters to the parents stating that parents, despite their level of education, have been involving themselves in the education of their children in the past and their input is still required for the academic excellence of their children.
“Parents involvement in the education of their children does not necessarily require a parent to be literate or rich. What is required is affection and care for the education of one’s children” KICD informed parents.
According to KICD parents must be involved in the learning process of their children for high academic excellence.
