TSC Set To Introduce A New And Efficient Way To Curb Chronic Absenteeism Among Teachers.
The Teacher Service Commission (TSC) is set to introduce a new and efficient way to curb chronic absenteeism among teachers in both primary and secondary schools across the country.
Teachers absenteeism was thought to have been kept under control with the introduction of the mandatory daily lesson attendance register by the Commission filled by class secretaries for every lesson.
The forms which capture the time the teachers enter the class during a lesson and the time when teachers leave at the end of each lesson will be soon be replaced with a new and efficient way to curb teachers absenteeism.
TSC’s CEO Dr Nancy Macharia highlighted that the data presented by teachers in TPAD might not reflect the actual manner in which teachers deliver their duties at the school level.
Dr Macharia, therefore, hinted that TSC will upgrade the system to effectively manage teachers across the country.
The Commission has already shifted the application of transfer and leaves to online to avoid paperwork.
According to the TSC spokesperson, Ms Beatrice Wababu, the commission is in the process of including other features on the TSC Kenya app that could enhance effective monitoring of teacher absenteeism in both primary and secondary schools.
The planned system upgrade is suspected to include a unique feature in which each teacher would be required to log in on arrival and log out when leaving school.
The move to introduce a new feature to manage teacher absenteeism was welcomed by the Commission’s ICT director Mr Charles Gichira.
Mr Charles said that there is a need to upgrade the TSC app to digitize the services offered by the Commission to enhance effective service delivery.
How will teachers respond to the commission’s move to introduce new features in the TSC app to curb chronic absenteeism among teachers?
