A University Student has been arrested for examination malpractices and is going to be arraigned in court for the offense.
The student was identified as Brighton, a third year student in Zetech University pursuing Economics. He is going to be charged has for violating section twenty eight of national examination malpractice act twenty nine of twenty twelve.
Brighton was found selling fake examination papers for both the just concluded KCPE and the ongoing KCSE yesterday.
Brighton according to a Directorate of Criminal Investigations, was found with fake examination papers both in soft copy and hard copy.
Brighton was selling the fake examination papers online. He had created many WhatsApp groups and was asking candidates through the WhatsApp groups to pay for the exams. Papers for humanities were sold at one thousand six hundred while those for sciences he was selling them at two thousand six hundred shillings.
The DCI describes Oscar Brighton as a serial offender. He is awaiting to be charged for violating National Examination malpractices Act of 2012 while in police custody.
According to the National Examination Malpractice Act, any person who is found in possession of the Examination papers before, during or after the exams unlawfully, commits an offense and is liable to imprisonment for upto five years upon conviction. Alternatively that person is liable to pay a fine of upto one million or both the fine and imprisonment.
Other suspects one from Marsabit, another from Turkana and the third from Bungoma counties have been arrested awaiting to be charged for examination malpractice. Among them is a center manager.
Earlier on before the start of the national examinations, Cabinet Secretary Professor Magoha had said the government will ensure that there will be no form of cheating or violation of exams regulations will be condoned.
He further added that tight security will be put in place to minimize or do away with leaking of question papers.
In that regard, any school nearer to where the exam containers are kept, will not be issued the exam papers earlier ( one hour before the starting time) but they shall be given twenty minutes to time.
