Family Exhumes Son’s Body In Resurrection Wake as they believed he was still alive. The boy died and was buried four months ago.
Police officers in Kisumu East have foiled a couple’s attempt to retrieve the body of their nine-year-old son. They hoped that he would be alive again.
In an incident that took the neighbors by surprise, Mr. Okoth Obudo believed that a spiritual leader who told him that his son who had been buried four months earlier would be resurrected.
It began after the Roho Musalaba Church of the Legio Maria sect told Mr. Obudo that he had predicted the boy’s resurrection.
The spiritual master told the couple that the boy would be resurrected on Sunday night.
The couple along with other family members had helped the church members excavate the boy’s body.
But shocked neighbors informed the police, who stormed the house and found them digging.
They had already removed half the soil from the grave and were almost removing the coffin before the officers arrived.
Neighbor Maureen Adhiambo said the couple believed their son was still alive. She was among the group of villagers who had gathered to witness the incident.
A team of officials from Kasagam raided the house and found the family digging.
Area OCPD James Musymi confirmed the incident and said the couple had been called in for questioning.
“The family was found half-digging the grave and it was immediately stopped,” he said.
According to a police report seen by The Standard, Mr Obudo defended himself, saying he was following the instructions of the church leader.
