SIM Registration: Process Marred With Confusion As users Get Contradicting Information
Confusion over Kenyans getting conflicting messages on SIM registration
Some Kenyans have followed instructions while others are still hesitant
The latest directive on registration of SIM cards has been met with resistance, with many Kenyans questioning the motive as the April 15 deadline draws near.
After Kenya’s Communications Authority announced that all active SIM cards in the market must be registered, CA Director General Ezra Chiloba stressed that the registration process is a common occurrence in the country.
Some Kenyans complied with the directive as evidenced by long queues at telco shops.
However, some refused to register their SIM cards. He argued that he does not see any point in re-registering his SIM card.
Mugambi says that when he bought his SIM card, it was registered and a picture of him was taken to finalize the registration.
Mugambi said, “I have fully registered my SIM card and completed the entire process, but after dialing *106# to check the status of my registration, I got a message that my registration is incomplete. It hasn’t happened. I’m very confused right now,” Mugambi said.
He added that he was not the only Kenyan who was confused about the whole process.
“We don’t know why there is so much conflicting information and it has left us with more questions than answers,” he said.
Daya Macau also expressed doubts about the process.
He claimed that he received contract messages even after completing the registration process.
The first message confirmed that it was registered while the second said otherwise.
“Last week, I checked my registration details and I apparently got a message saying that my SIM card is fully registered. On Tuesday, I decided to check again because some people have different. This time, the message I received said that my SIM card registration is now incomplete,” Mercy explained.
A section of Kenyans have shared similar experiences online regarding the status of their SIM cards after registration.
Others raised concerns that some telecom companies, despite having their full ID details, are still asking them to register their SIM cards physically.
They are also concerned about why the registration process cannot be done online.
Another person, upon checking the registration details, she finds out that she has only one SIM card registered.
