Magoha Says The Ministry Has Identified The Following Category Of Schools For Junior Secondary
Education CS George Magoha has clarified the issue of junior secondary schools under CBC.
CS will have both boarding and day school in both junior secondary, CS said.
“All current boarding and day secondary schools will admit learners transitioning from Grade 6 to Grade 7 under CBC,” Magoha said.
CS said the transition would be based on the curriculum to be provided by the ministry.
Magoha added that his ministry has identified 1,500 primary schools that will host junior secondary schools, which have adequate teaching and learning facilities.
“All current boarding and day secondary schools will admit learners transitioning to junior secondary,” Magoha said.
In addition, the Ministry of Education has consulted private schools to set up junior secondary schools alone.
Magoha said this would give learners a chance to make a full transition to secondary school.
“The implementation of the CBC and the transition from primary school is based on the recommendations of the designated taskforce,” he said.
He added that the implementation of CBC and transition from primary to junior secondary school and later to senior secondary school is based on the recommendations of the task force formed in 2019.
KICD said that they have already designed the curriculum from PP1 to standard seven.
KICD is in the process of developing more curriculum content before the full rollout.
Teacher training on CBC is ongoing and is set to be completed by the end of this week.
More than 60,000 teachers are currently undergoing training in both public and private secondary schools.
To date, a total of 229,000 teachers have been trained by the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) in forty-seven counties.
