Beware; Four Arraigned in Court For Sharing Money Sent Via Mpesa
A lady who received and shared Sh149, 952 mistakenly sent to her phone through M-Pesa has been charged with theft together with three other people whom she distributed the money to.
Mbula Mutio Felister was charged at the Kibera Law Courts with stealing the money. Alongside her were Kelvin Mativo, Maureen Mutinda and Elizabeth Mwanthi.
They are accused of stealing the money from Patrick Njihia Kamau in Nairobi Westlands on different dates between 25 and 28 of May 2022.
Mr Patrick was sending the money to his wife to pay hospital bill for a relative but the wife’s number had been sold to Felister after being out of service for long.
Felister is said to have told her counterparts that she had received the money from someone he didn’t know and went ahead to share it with them. She transferred different amounts to the co-accused persons according to the reports.
The wife to Patrick got concerned when she did not receive the money and asked him about it. It was at this point when he realized that he had been sending money to the wrong number.
They contacted Safaricom but it was too late for them as the money had been used already. They reported the issue to the police who took the matter and traced the first suspect leading to her arrest and that of her accomplices.
The four denied the charges and we’re released on cash bail of thirty thousand each. Mentioning of the case will be on twenty seventh of this month.
