During World Teachers Day celebrations yesterday, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) honored several teachers for their outstanding contributions to ensuring quality education in the country.
TSC CEO Dr Nancy Macharia revealed at the Kenya School of Government- Lower Kabete that 264 teachers would be honored for defying the odds in order to push for effective and quality education.
Furthermore, a group of teachers would be recognized for receiving national honors in the previous two years, some of whom were awarded in 2022.
These include Peter Tabichi, who received the outstanding award in Commonwealth 2022, Joel Shunza Gitali, who received the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Anti-tobacco award, and Gerald Mutosi, who received the outstanding sculpture award.
Despite numerous challenges, TSC chair Jamleck Muturi acknowledged the critical role of teachers in building the nation and preparing tomorrow’s leaders during the meeting.
Akelo Misori, Secretary General of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), on the other hand, urged the commission to lobby the new administration on behalf of all teachers.
