Nairobi County boss Johnson Sakaja has urged the County’s residents to be vigilant, record and report to relevant authorities any cases of illegal Dumping of waste across the City and its environs at a fee.
Sakaja made the announcement in a Twitter post today acompanied with a picture of some county officials unclogging drainage systems in specific components of Nairobi.
As we unclog the drainage system at some stage in they city, let’s kindly desist from further unlawfuldumping,” stated Sakaja. If you see a person Dumping waste any howly, record him or her so that they can be arrested, prosecuted and the fine paid break up into two, half to the county and the other to the person who reported. Will work on the county law to provide for this. Let’s maintain our town clean.”
In October, Governor Sakaja blamed the rubbish threat in Nairobi on the previous administration, pronouncing Nairobi’s modern-day waste hindrance is a result of neglect, unlawful dumping and contractors downing their equipment over unpaid dues totaling to Ksh.3 billion.
In the identical month, Sakaja noted that his government will drift a green bond that will be used to construct a mass transit machine and expand the infrastructure for waste administration and water distribution.
Part of the green bond, Sakaja said, will be used in sorting out the rubbish problem in Nairobi by means of converting waste to energy.
According to Sakaja, his administration has accumulated at least 70 tonnes of rubbish since taking over, and efforts are underway to find a long-term solution.
