President Ruto had appointed a team of 42 members to review the new curriculum before it can be implemented in Kenyan Schools. The team however, was to collect views from stakeholders at designated points. So far the process is ongoing and various stakeholders have made their contributions.
Opinion was, however, divided as some stakeholders known as for reorganisation of CBC to make it greater less costly for all.This emerged as parents, learners, teachers, political leaders and different stakeholders gave their views to the presidential taskforce on education reforms, which embarked on public engagements yesterday.
The 42-member team visited 10 counties on its first day of public hearings. It used to be set up to give pointers on how the schooling curriculum can be improved and is expected to give its recommendations via January.
Here are the views:
* Junior Secondary School (JSS) be domiciled in primary school to provide learners time to mature physically.
* Government to offset the burden of CBC now being carried by parents.
*Grade Six parents stated pre-teen newbies in Grade Six and Seven would be harassed by their older friends in secondary.
*We are used to transitioning teenagers to secondary but these teens will be too young to be subjected to life in a secondary school set up.
* More facilities should be put up because currently the facilities available in most secondary schools are inadequate.
* Parents are afraid that that younger newbies would be inclined to psychological torture as their older peers may Molest them.
* Accessible amenities in sub-county secondary schools, the place parents are in all likelihood to take their kids to be day scholars, had insufficient amenities to accommodate more learners.
* Other stakeholders called on the Prof Raphael Munavu-led crew to shelve the new curriculum until appropriate structures are put in place.
