Property of unknown value has been destroyed following a major fire that broke out Tuesday morning at around 4AM at Gikomba Market.
According to a tweet by the County of Nairobi, Nairobi City County Fire and Disaster team arrived at the scene immediately and was able to put out the fire.
The team said, 23 year old Samuel Njuguna sustained injuries and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital for treatment.
Elsewhere, 9 people among them 8 women escaped death by a whisker after the canoe capsized in Lake Victoria during the annual canoe racing festival held in Bumbe of Funyula constituency, Busia county.
The event that dates back to 1967 and is held every 26th of December attracts hundreds of local communities among them leaders.
On board were eight women and a man who was the canoe’s skipper.
Quick intervention by local divers and those hired from Mombasa, saved the nine from drowning.
This follows the drowning of two people in the Indian Ocean at Jomo Kenyatta Public Beach, who were part of twelve family members, after their boat capsized on Christmas Day. Nine others were rescued.
