Gibore said that failure to reach a mutually beneficial agreement has resulted in a state of uncertainty, dissatisfaction, and demoralization among health workers who tirelessly serve the public’s health needs.
He said it has led to delayed and inadequate remuneration for our members, who deserve fair compensation for their dedication, expertise, and hard work.
Gibore added that the lack of an agreed-upon CBA has brought disparities in working conditions, including inadequate staffing levels, insufficient resources, and limited professional development opportunities.
Gibore noted that this directly affects the quality of healthcare services provided to the public.
They noted that health workers have not been able to receive a pay rise for the past seven years despite the rising cost of living occasioned by inflation and the ever-rising tax burden.
The unions noted that a fair and comprehensive CBA is essential to address the concerns raised and foster a harmonious working environment.
They have called on the government to prioritize the conclusion of the CBA negotiations in the health sector and make sure that they improve working conditions and provide fair compensation.
Poor working conditions among other issues, have made the country lose very specialised and experienced healthcare workers to other countries.
Health unions have in the recent past called on the President to constitute a National Joint Taskforce on Health to look into issues affecting the health sector in the country.
Luckily, President William Ruto recommended the formation of a Kenya Human Resource Advisory Council which will be tasked with addressing all the constant challenges facing the health sector in the country between the counties, the national government, and the healthcare workers.
The council will iron out some of the issues raised by health workers.
