16-year-old girl murdered brutally in public
Police have arrested a 20-year-old man for brutally stabbing and murdering a 16-year-old female friend in public.
CCTV Footage captured from the crime scene shows the man stabbing the girl repeatedly and crushing her head with a big stone.
The video, which has gone viral, shows many people watching and capturing the assault while others are walking by without a care. This has led to public outrage.
Police have linked the the two as a couple saying that they had quarrelled hours before the murder. The girl was to attend friend’s son birthday party but she was attacked on her way according to reports from senior police official.
Senior police official identified the accused as Sahil and said he was arrested from near Bulandshahr district in the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh.
Mr Singh added that the investigation has been launched and that the police will reveal more information on the case once investigation is completed.
After the footage of the gruesome murder went viral, many took to social media to express anger and outrage.
In a tweet, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal described the murder as extremely sad and unfortunate and stated that criminals have no fear of the law and of the policepolice.
The crime was captured on CCTV. Several people saw this, but did not pay heed. Delhi has become extremely unsafe for women and girls, according to Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal.
The chairperson of the National Commission for Women Rekha Sharma said the crime showed how insensitive the residents of Delhi are.
She said that there were several people at the spot during the incident but they did nothing to help girl. They watched on without taking any action.
This is not the first gruesome crime in India where bystanders have been called out for their apathy. In the past, citizens have been criticised for watching or recording videos instead of helping victims of crime.
