Teachers to undertake training for additional subjects
The Task Force on school Reforms has made a significant recommendation about the design of Kenya’s primary schoolschool system.
According to the aforementioned idea, elementary school teachers would primarily need to concentrate in two subject areas. As a result of this proposal, practically all of the subjects will no longer be taught by elementary school instructors. Instead, like their peers in secondary schools, students will focus on one or two academic areas and specialize in them.
The President received the second interim report from the Presidential task committee on education reforms early last week. State House, however, has kept quiet about the study because it differed from the initial report that was delivered on December 1 of last year.
Professor Raphael Munavu is in charge of the delegation focused on reforming educationeducation. However, the task force report has not been mentioned in any way on the president’s social media accounts.
The December 1 study initially focused mostly on concerns related to basic education, in particular the grade 6 to grade 7 transition process. The government complied with the report’s recommendations as soon as it was released.
The task group study recommended hiring over 30,000 teachers for junior secondary and housing junior secondary in already-existing elementary schools. The idea that hiring specialized instructors will raise levels of skill and topic depth led to the decision to house junior secondary schools in already-existing primary schools.
Adoption of this kind of proposalproposal would make primary school curricula comparable to high school curricula. The current primary school instructors who teach a variety of courses would require some professional development and retraining to focus on some particular academic disciplines.
This strategy will use effective teaching methods to widen and improve their understanding of the particular subject. Even though this approach has some virtues, it also has some drawbacks. The availability of tutors in all subject areas is a serious challenge.
It will be difficult to find the required number of specialized teachers, particularly in small and distant schools. Due to this difficulty, there won’t be enough and/or few specialized teachers, which will put a burden on the resources of the educational system.
