Form two student shot dead by police. It has emerged that a Form two girl was shot dead by the police earlier today in Kisumu. The girl is said to have gone for shopping ahead of school reopening tomorrow and was on her way home.
Locals said the girl is a Form two student at Rangala Girls High School in Siaya County.
The girl succumbed to injuries at Aga Khan Hospital after police opened fire in chase for a matatu that failed to stop at a traffic roadblock.
The shooting that also left two other people with serious injuries sparked violent protests in the city.
Witnesses said the student was riding on a boda boda when she was hit by a bullet when police opened fire to disperse a rowdy group as they gave chase to a matatu that had run over spikes on a traffic roadblock.
According to a witness whose identity was not Disclosed, two other people who sustained serious injuries are admitted in hospitalhospital fighting for their lives.
In the fragas, the witnesses stormed Kisumu Central PolicePolice Station where they destroyed property before they were dispersed by teargas.
Jane Auma, eye witness, said that the Form two girl was on a motorbike when a stray bullet hit her on the head. She fell down from the motorcycle as the cyclist was fleeing.
The area MCA Sammy Onyango condemned the police action describing it as “unwarranted.” What was the point of shooting the police should have acted appropriately by noting the number plate of the vehicle because these are vehicles operating town route, getting them can’t be a big deal.
