Good News To Teachers And All Civil Servants As Treasury Makes a U-turn on Salaries And Promotion.
Teachers and other civil servants in Kenya have a reason to smile after the government announces good news on salary increment and promotions. Nearly two months ago treasury read the budget 2021/2022 financial year and the salaries and remuneration commission (CRC) gave directives on no salary review for next two years for all the civil servant due to inadequate funds in treasury.
This was followed by an offer of a non-monetary 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) which left teachers disappointed but they later accepted to move on with life and duty.
Today the ministry of treasury has made a bold move the salary increment and promotion of civil servants. The cabinet secretary of treasury Ukur Yattani has directed all the ministries to lay aside money for salary increment for civil servants as from next year.
Additionally, according to the circular sent to the ministries, departments and agencies by CS Treasury Ukur Yatani, the workers on short contracts will also be hired on Permanent and pensionable terms.
This indeed is a good gesture for teachers and other civil servants who eagerly for the increment of their salaries and promotions during this period of high economic demands and high cost of living amidst Covid-19 pandemic.
