Higher Education Loan Board (Helb) has delivered good news to all first-year students across all university and tertiary institutions who applied for Helb Loan.
It is a relief to all first-year students as The Higher Education Loans Board(HELB) revealed that first-year students who were admitted to universities this year and applied for Helb loans are going to receive their first disbursement of loans before the end of October.
These students would have received their loan allocation beginning of October to enable them to pay fees for their first semester.
Helb CEO Charles Ringera reported that 10,000 students who are sponsored by the state have already received their first disbursement.
He added that this year they have received an overwhelming number of applications of up to 85,000 students.
Besides, it will mean almost half of the students selected to join university this year under government sponsorships will miss out on student loans.
Beneficiaries will get about Sh 37,000.
