Hike of school fees even as the economy continue to soar
Leaders have warned the school heads against increase the school as some have hiked the school fees beyond what the government had stated for each category of secondary schools.
Senator and Senate Majority Leader of West pokot county has cautioned head teachers in the county over hiking school fees.
Parents had raised concerns over increasing of school fees in the county noting that some school principals were sending learners away from school to go and collect the extra levies.

This has not only affected the standards of education standards in the region but it has also overburden the parents. The economy is already a burden to them and increasing the school fees will add to their burdens.
The leaders in the region have condemned the move and have asked the school heads to stick to the guidelines from the government concerning fee payment.
Senator west pokot county added that most parents in the county are struggling with major issues among them is poverty and hence hiking of fee will worsen everything.
Samwel Poghisio added that the school principals should consider the predicament the parents are going through and only ask for the minimum amount as per the government directive. Parents can not afford to pay fees since they have huge families that are difficult to manage.
In his argument the senator said Kenyans are taxed and that the government gives back some of the money to schools as capitation, therefore the parents should not be taxed further in the name of supplementary tuition.
He called upon school heads of all learning institutions including tertiary colleges to be considerate and allow learners to be in school as parents are looking for money.
Mr Poghisio suggested that school managers should work out ways of earning the school some extra income so that parents are allowed time to look for school fees.
