Emurua Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ngeno narrowly escaped arrest after his supporters clashed with the police in Narok on Saturday, June 10, 2023.
A scuffle ensued as detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) attempted to arrest Ng’eno shortly after he graced a UDA party recruitment drive meeting at TM grounds.
The officers said they were acting on instructions from the DCI headquarters in Nairobi and were attached to National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
However, the MP, backed by his supporters resisted the arrest attempts, insisting that the motive of the arrest was suspect.
They claimed the officers did not have an arrest warrant against the MP, who has been on the NCIC radar for a while.
The angry supporters, who questioned the move to arrest Ng’eno on a weekend, went ahead to deflate the officers’ car tyres, thwarting attempts to whisk the lawmaker away.
Prior to his arrest in Transmara, Ng’eno had hit out at former President Uhuru Kenyatta over wrangles in the Jubilee Party.
In a viral video, the MP told the former President to work with his then-deputy William Ruto “or go home”.
In February 2020, the MP was also arrested alongside two local war representatives while preparing to address settlers who were at the time facing eviction from Mu forest.
The leaders were accused of inciting the locals ahead of their eviction from the forest. However, the police later managed to arrest one of the group’s leaders and booked him at the Narok Police Station.
Ng’eno’s brush with the law
The last time Ng’eno was arrested was in September 2020 when he was accused of making utterances likely to incite communities against each other.
