Kenyan Bus Company Listed Among Companies Financing Al-Shabaab Operations
16 agencies including a Kenyan bus company have been sanctioned by United States for allegedly financing Al-Shabaab operations.
The US Department of Treasury released a statement alleging that the bus firm assisted the extremists in their logistical activities.
The US has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with neighbors to identify and destroy organizations and networks that finance terrorism.
Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson stated, “Today’s action is part of a multifaceted effort by Treasury to support the Somali government’s economic offensive against al-Shabaab – one of three pillars in their campaign to degrade this deadly terrorist group.”

According to allegations made against them, the sanctioned people and organizations raised and laundered millions of dollars through a number of enterprises at al-Shabaab’s direction and benefit.
“As a result of today’s action, all property and interests in property of the individuals and entities named above, and of any entities that are owned, directly or indirectly, 50 percent or more by them, individually, or with other blocked persons, that are in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons must be blocked and reported to Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC),” stated the statement.
