KICD Directed to Monitise Music and Drama Festivals
President has directed KICD to monetise the content from school music and drama festivals.
He challenged the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to digitise the scripts and monetise this year’s activities in order to generate income which will make the activities sustainable.
The President was speaking at State House Nakuru during this year’s Kenya Music Festivals State Concert. He said he had given directives on what needs to be done to monetise talent and creativity right from ECDE to tertiary institutions.
The President said through monitising talents and creativity Kenya might have sufficient funds for the event to fund itself. From the funds a provision for promoting teachers involved in performing arts should be there.
President added that through the program, stakeholders should organise training for teachers involved in performing arts within and outside the country.
Kenya Music Festivals for this year were held in Nyeri at Dedan Kimathi University. The gala event however was was held in Nakuru at Nakuru Girls High School.
The winning teams from various categories performed for the President today being the climax.
In his speech, the president said tutors who get certificates for their excellent performances during the event should be awarded scholarships.
He disclosed that there are plans to change the Presidential Music Commission into the Creative Commission of Kenya.
Once the Bill is changed into law, every county would have a studio for development of talent, he said.
President gave an extensive scheme with Tik Tok, FB, YouTube, and Twitter to monetise Kenyan content.
He further revealed that social platforms can generate between three hundred million and five hundred million shillings per month adding that the highest-paid content creator in Kenya earns 7 million per month
