KUCCPS: Over 250,000 2021 KCSE Candidates to join higher education institutions.
Over 250,052 2021 KCSE candies have been placed by KUCCPS to join various higher education institutions.
Cabinet Secretary for Education Professor George Magoha on Saturday said 90% of candidates who achieved an average grade of C+ and above and applied to join university or TVET were placed successfully in various universities and colleges.
“85% of the applicants have entered undergraduate degrees, while 5% will take courses in TVET institutions,” Magoha said during the release of the 2021 KCSE University Placement Report in Nairobi.
144,466 students qualified for the various courses of study.
85.8% of these were placed in universities, 67,237 women and 56,726 men.
A few other 5,278 candidates who also qualified for undergraduate courses were inducted into TVET by choice, which CS has called a joy after the recent graduation saga.
“The absurdity of degrees in this country is what is leading us in the wrong direction,” he said.
However, 16,000 students who qualified for the placement but did not apply were blocked.
More female candidates (68,705) joined TVET than male candidates (54,000), the report shows.
Applicants can check their placements on the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal.
826,807 candidates wrote the national test administered between February 28 and April 2022.
