KUPPET sends a message to examiners
Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers has send a crucial message saying they will not be involved in marking of this year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.
This is after the Kenya National Examination Council(KNEC) failed to clear all the pending dues owed to all the examiners across the country who participated in the marking of 2022 examination.
Speaking during the KUPPET Uasin Gishu branch Annual General Meeting, Moses Nthurima Deputy Secretary General said they will not be involved in the marking until their dues are fully paid.
“As I am talking we have decided that our members will not participate in the marking of this year’s KCSE exams until the government pays us our dues.
Our members are also being given low remuneration and we will not relent in pushing for the welfare of the markers,” said Nthurima.
“. We have instructed our members not to report to the gazetted examination centers until they get the green light from the union,” He said.
Nthurima called for an urgent meeting with their employer, the Teachers Service Commission and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission to discuss and deliberate on pertinent matters related to the welfare of the teaching fraternity in the country.
“It is prudent for the TSC and SRC to initiate an urgent meeting with the union to resolve the matter to avoid the disruption of the forthcoming marking of the 2023 national examination papers,” said Nthurima.
They also want a harmonization of the secondary school teacher’s salary.
“Why is the employer discriminating against the teachers when carrying out harmonization of the pay increase for the staff attached to the teacher service commission?
We will not allow this to happen,” he warned.
