Loopholes in the education sector that paves way for acquisition of fake academic certificates by politicians revealed
Former secretary general of Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Wilson Sossion, who also served as an appointed member of parliament, revealed that the cause of the false academic certificates was due to a faulty education system in Kenya.
According to Wilson Sossion, this has resulted in many untrained people taking up political seats without having the required academic credentials.
“Without mentioning the names, this tells us about our governance systems in making sure there is due diligence in documenting people and ensuring that minimum standards are met. This is the highest level of intellectual dishonesty in Kenya, ”Wilson Sossion said while appearing on KTN news.
According to Sossion, allowing people with unverified academic credentials to fill political positions for which they are ineligible is a mockery of the education sector.
Sossion said there have been cases of candidates lacking academic credentials in every election cycle, leading to an accumulation of scammers in positions of power.
“Matiang’i revealed that we could have 40% of the scammers elected to parliament. We need to establish strict rules, once the constitution clarifies the minimum qualifications, they should be followed, “Sossion said.
Sossion argued that the Electoral and Independent Borders Commission (IEBC) and political parties should present the best candidates to voters.
This comes amid the question of Johnson Sakaja’s academic credentials.
Although he has been authorized by the IEBC to run for a political seat, it has been revealed that Sakaja does not have a credible degree certificate.
Some current politicians are in court defending cases over the authenticity of academic documents. This is despite being allowed to run for politics
