This came about as a result of the paramilitary training force receiving a large number of mails from Kenyans inquiring about the qualifications for enlisting in 2024.

Qualifications and Conditions
Anybody who wants to join NYS has to be a naturalized citizen of Kenya. Citizens by naturalization are not eligible to enroll.
Kenyans who are interested in joining the Service must be between the ages of 18 and 24. This is consistent with NYS’s mission to be a premier hub for empowering, developing, and training Kenyan youth.
Interested candidates must have completed the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education with a minimum grade of D (plain) or its equivalent.
The young person needs to be physically and medically fit. This is determined throughout the hiring process.
Adolescents present at the recruitment event must not have a criminal record. Proof of a certificate of good behavior issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is necessary.
Last but not least, any person interested must meet any other qualification that the Director General may prescribe from time to time.
Does the training help in securing an employment?
NYS assured young Kenyans that the Service had developed an exit strategy that ensures that all graduates are absorbed in employment upon completion of the program.
Just to mention but a few, 80 per cent transition to other disciplined services, labour export to Europe amongst others,” a statement from NYS read in part.
Towards the end of last year, President William Ruto directed that NYS trainees must be given first consideration during police and military recruitment.
