Ruto announces free medical cover for all learners
President William Ruto has announced free medical cover for Kenyans under 18 years with the launch of the Social Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
He said that in the next three months healthcare will be free for all Kenyans from birth until the age of 18.
The President made the announcement while in Murang’a County overseeing development projects in Mathioya, Kìharu, and Gatanga constituencies.
According to president Ruto, Kenyans will soon have access to free medical coverage through the SHIF.

“We are changing the old formula, which provided medical insurance for secondary school students only. Now, the government will provide medical insurance to all school-going children up to the age of 18,” he said.
He further said that the Linda Mama programme will be expanded, allowing women to receive 10 pre-natal and post-natal visits, an increase from the current six.
The Linda Mama programme, a key part of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) aims at providing free maternity services to all expectant mothers in public and selected private healthcare facilities.

Universal Health Coverage is a key pillar of the country’s “Big Four Agenda,” aimed at ensuring that every Kenyan has access to affordable and quality healthcare services without suffering financial hardship.
Initiatated and launched in 2018, Linda Mama focuses on expanding healthcare access, improving service delivery, and reducing out-of-pocket expenses for medical services.
