Our secondary school sports’ landscape is packed with great talents which need to be tapped to the fullest.
When the superstars identified from secondary school sports feature later in the national team this brings national glory. Therefore, the government must invest more in school games if we are to continue churning great talent.
It is hearty to know that the Ministry of Sports has embarked on an ambitious initiative to identify and nurture sports talents in schools in 15 counties.
The ‘Making of Champions of Tomorrow’, initiative by the ministry of Sports targets more than 20,000 learners aged between six and sixteen years, who will be nurtured or trained on the basics of various sports like volleyball, athletics, football, basketball and rugby.
However, the biggest game changer in all of this is the government offering sponsored scholarships for students who excel in academics and sports. This we believe will be the game changer.
