Kenyan lady known as Lucy Wambui left Kenya to Saudi Arabia for work in May. She was happy to have found a job with the thoughts of being able to improve her family’s standard of living.
Her hope, as the firstborn daughter in their family, was that her earnings would help uplift her single mother and siblings.
Her joy and happiness vanished after the 30-year-old lady got sick. Lucy is now fighting for her life in Hospital at Saudi Arabia with no family member to comfort or console her.
Lucy has been admitted in the hospital for 3 weeks and has undergone 3 operations after suffering from an unknown stomach ailment.
In a heartbreaking video circulating in social media, the lady can be seen vomiting as she writhes in pain with no one to help her.
From the photos Lucy appears so sickly, emaciated lady lying in a hospital bed with dried, cracked lips.
To worsen her situation, her employer is refusing to let her go demanding for a refund of 450,000 thousand shillings which she allegedly paid an agent for Lucy to go to Saudi Arabia to work for them.
According to the employer she paid an agent Six hundred thousand shillings to get her someone to work for them. So far, Lucy’s monthly salary has reduced the figure to four hundred and fifty thousand.
Back home in Matithi, Kambirwa in Kiharu constituency, Murang’a County, her family is in agony as efforts to bring her back seem futile.
They say they had watched the video but do not know how to help her as efforts to bring her home have not been successful. Lucy was in good healthy when she left the country.
Ms Njoki says that her daughter left the country in May but she fell sick towards the end of November this year.
She decried that efforts to repatriate her daughter to receive treatment in Kenya have proven futile since her employer is not ready to let her go until she is compensated fully.
“We are very concerned because if they are demanding compensation, we don’t know if they will ask us to pay for the hospital bill too,” lamented Ms Njoki.
Lucy’s sister, Monica Nyambura, say all they want is to have Lucy back to the country so that they can take care of her. Her fear is the sick Lucy may be forced by her employer to work despite her condition.
