*Teacher Kill Self After Killing His 5 Year Old Son*
It is suspected that the incident happened due to a domestic dispute.
A village in Homa Bay County had a gloomy atmosphere after an elementary school teacher committed suicide after allegedly killing his five-year-old son.
Calvins Okello, an elementary school teacher in Migori County, is said to have taken his own life at a church in Nyangu village of Kothidha location in Homa Bay sub-county on Tuesday.
Reports say that he did so after allegedly killing his five-year-old son, identified as Charles Norbert.
The clear reason why the 35-year-old teacher took his own life is yet to be established.
However, it is suspected that the incident happened due to a domestic dispute.
According to John Omamo, the head of the Kothidha area, the incident started on Monday when Okello left the house with his son.
He intended to walk with them to the village and return home a few minutes later. But the family got worried when he did not return home in the evening. From this his wives started calling him.
Instead of expressing his intention, the teacher promised to return home.
“While he was being called, he asked his family to give him a few minutes so he could return home, but he didn’t,” Omamo said.
The family members became worried at night when Okello did not return home as promised.
The family’s phones were not working on Tuesday morning.
This raised concerns, causing the family members to start searching for him in the village.
His body was found hanging from the ceiling of a village church. He committed suicide by tying a rope around his neck.
Minutes later, residents found his son’s body in a nearby sugarcane plantation.
The son had injury marks on his neck, due to which it is suspected that he may have been strangled to death.
The reason for the confusion is that Okello killed the son of his second wife, with whom he had no differences.
“The teacher had domestic differences with his first wife, he killed a child of the second wife with whom he was living peacefully. This makes it difficult to know the exact reason for the exam,” Omamo said.
The body was taken to the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital morgue.
The Homa Bay Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigation Officer Monica Berege said they have opened an investigation into the incident.
“We are going to the scene and investigation is going on to find out the cause of death,” Berege said.
