TSC Advertises 36000 Vacancies for Promotion
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) decided to promote 36,275 teachers, giving preference to those who have been stuck in the same job categories for a long time.
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in Vihiga County has applauded this move.
They asked the employer of the teachers to practice fairness in the promotion interviews.
Sabala Inyeni, the executive secretary of KUPPET Vihiga, said he was pleased that the Commission had this time around taken into account the condition of the majority of teachers, particularly in job groups C3, C4, and C5.
However, they are noting issues with how the commission has previously conducted the process.
“We are pleased that the commission has now taken into account the situation of the majority of our members who have stagnated, particularly in C3, C4, and C5.
However, Sabala insisted, “We want the commission to be transparent about the marking scheme that they intend to apply in these interviews.
Several of their members, according to Sabala, were still awaiting the outcomes of earlier interviews.
He urged TSC to avoid the custom of sending instructors for promotions more than three times without hearing back.
“What’s more upsetting is that there are so few people getting promoted. “Why is the commission asking the same teachers who, in their opinion, did not qualify for the same promotion not more than six months ago to apply for interviews?” questioned Sabala.
The TSC should halt the practice of making instructors sit for the same interview three or even four times before they are successful, he continued.
We worry that the commission is doing these interviews in much the same way that it conducts job offers at funerals and other social gatherings, Sabala continued.
A total of 36,275 instructors will receive promotions, per the promotional advertisement TSC posted yesterday, in accordance with the Commission’s Career Progression Guidelines (CPG) for instructors.
Any interested individuals have until September 8, 2023, to submit their application if they match the requirements.
The Commission plans to promote a total of 12,716 teachers to Senior Master IV, which makes up a significant portion of the C3 to C4 promotion.
A teacher must have completed at least two (2) years of service as a Secondary Teacher I, T-Scale 8 and have received a satisfactory grade during the performance review process in order to be assigned to the post.
Additionally, it aims to upgrade 1,142 teachers from Senior Master IV T-Scale 9 to Senior Master III rank in C4, where appointment requires a teacher to have worked as a Senior Master IV T-Scale 9 for at least two years.
In addition, there are 34 Chief Principal positions, 108 Senior Principal positions, 541 Principal positions, 547 Deputy Principal II positions, 72 Senior Lecturer I positions, 1,057 Deputy Principal III positions, 216 Senior Lecturer IV positions in Teacher Training Colleges, and 1,928 Secondary Teacher I positions.
Senior Teacher I in primary schools with 3,040 positions while SNE total allocation is 346 positions, Senior Teacher II in primary schools with a majority of 10,819 positions, and Senior Teacher II in SNE institutions with 700 positions.
The Headteacher has 1,049 posts and 30 posts for Special Needs Education (SNE). Deputy Headteacher II has 1,930 posts.
