While appearing before members of national assembly education committee, Teacher Service Commission boss has defended the medical insurance tender awarded to Minet Insurance amid an uproar by a section of education stakeholders.
Speaking when she appeared before Members of the National Assembly Education Committee Nancy Macharia, reiterated that the tendering process was followed accordingly and that even the Attorney General agreed that it was above board.
She told the committee that TSC intended to sign a contract with the National Insurance Hospital Fund (NHIF) upon the expiry of Minet’s previous contract but financial constraints became a hindrance as it presented a hurdle.
Due to the budgetary constraints experienced Minet was given the medical scheme tender once again that will run for another three years before its expiry. The contract was signed on December 1, 2022 and is expected to offer medical cover for public school teachers.
