TSC New Teacher Registration Guidelines 2022
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) new teacher registration guidelines, requirements and TSC numbers application process are reviewed from time to time.
The commission carries out continuous registration for qualified persons as teachers.
TSC also reviews the standards of Education, training of persons entering the teaching service and the documents required for one to apply for a TSC numberAll TSC registered teachers have a special identification number called TSC Number and a TSC registration certificate.
According to the TSC act 2012 Section 23 (2), any person not registered as a teacher by the commission is prohibited from engaging in teaching service.
Additionally, the TSC Code of Regulations for Teachers (2015) Part III provides TSC new teacher registration guidelines, conditions and procedure.
TSC New Teacher Registration Guidelines: Categories Of Teachers To Be Registered By TSC
The Teachers Service Commission registers teachers with the following qualifications:
ECDE – Early Child Development Education
PTE-Primary Teacher Education
Diploma in Education
Diploma in Education (Visual and hearing impairment)
Bachelor of Education
Bachelor of Education Arts
Bachelor of Education Science
Qualifications For Registration Of ECDE Teachers
Minimum requirements for Certificate ECDE teachers
Have a Minimum of CPE/KCPE and an ECDE Certificate KNEC or
Have a KCSE mean grade of D+(minimum) and an ECDE Certificate from KNEC. Or
Have a Minimum KCSE mean grade of D (plain), a KNEC proficiency certificate, plus an ECDE Certificate from KNEC.
Minimum requirements Diploma ECDE teachers
Have a KCSE Mean grade of C Plain plus an ECDE Certificate from KNEC.
Have a KCSE Mean grade of C+ (minimum) and a University Diploma in ECDE
Minimum requirements Degree ECDE teachers
Have a mean grade C+ and above in KCSE plus a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree in ECDE.
Requirements for primary teachers registration
Have a Primary Teacher Education (PTE or P1) Certificate from KNEC.
Have Bachelors of Education (B.Ed.) degree in Primary education with 2 teaching subjects from an accredited university.
Minimum TSC Requirements for secondary school teachers registration
Have a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree in 2 teaching subjects, a KCSE mean grade C+ (or above) and a C+ and Above in the two teaching subjects combination OR
Have a Bachelor of Arts, BA, degree or a Bachelor’s of Science, BSc, degree with a KCSE mean grade C+ (or above), plus C+ two subjects specialization and a PGDE.
Have a Diploma in Education plus a Minimum KCSE grade C+ or above and C+ or above in the two subjects specialization.
