The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) Closed Indefinitely Over Comrade Unrest.
The Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) has been closed indefinitely following gross disturbances of students after a presidential aspirant in student politics was reported missing.Dan Sichei Soit, one of the TUM student who was seeking student TUM presidential seat was reported missing after he was abducted by armed men.
Report from the institution revealed that Dan Soit was last seen on Wednesday, November 23 and is alleged to have been arrested together with other 50 comrades only to disappear from the police cell.
In an interview conducted by the Elinu News team, one of the student who never wanted her identity to be disclosed said that there was fighting among the comrades over who won the TUM presidential elections which lead to arrest of more that 50 comrades and one of them was the reported missing presidential aspirant.
The statement from HAKI Africa revealed that Soit communicated last with his friend saying he had been intercepted by unknown people who contained him at a room near the institution.
“I do not know what they are up to. Amusavi and major atmre outside with police officers in civilian”, part of the last message from Soit read.
His roommate Marvin Mabonga confirmed that since his arrest, Soit is yet to surface adding that the effort to find him has not bore an fruit.
Following his disappearance, the Technical University of Mombasa students decided to go on rampage seeking for justice.
The matter has since been reported to the police station and invigilations into the incident have been launched.
The immediate closer of the institution was reported by the university administration after intensive protests from comrades.
Part of the internal meno read, ” Following the special senate meeting held today 23rd November at 2pm in the main conference room to discuss student’s gross disturbances, the senate resolved to close the university indefinitely. All students at the university are advised to vacate the hostels and the university premises immediately “.
