Two Female Prisoners Escape from Kodiaga Maximum Prison, Kisumu
Two Female Prisoners who have been remanded in Kodiaga maximum prison in Kisumu over murder case have escaped from the prison.
Amulti-agency security team in Kisumu have began a manhunt for two female remandees who were murder suspects and have been reported to have escaped from the Prison.
The murder case involving the two suspects was filed in Kisumu law court and the two women were being held at kodiaga women prison awaiting charges.
According to reliable sources, prison guards were taken aback on Sunday evening when they realised that the two were missing when they were carrying out headcount.
It is reported that at one pm the two women suspects were present during a headcount that was done at that time. However, after three hours another headcount was done but unfortunately the duo was missing.
One of the warders claim that the two might have camouflaged themselves as visitors and walked out like other visitors through the gate.
Magu Mutindika the Regional Commissioner Nyanza has confirmed the incident adding that efforts to re-capture them is underway. Amulti-agency team have launched manhunt for the two Female murder suspects. Intense search is ongoing, he noted.
The incident has once again exposed the faults or loopholes in the country’s correctional facilities. This comes barely three months after three terror convicts did the same last year November. However the three escapees from Kamiti Maximum prison were recaptured after 3 days at Tana River region.
